30 Rock Season 1, Episode 2

The part when Tracy Jordan is doing his stand up is ridiculous.  It looked like Seinfield with the brick wall and spot light.

“Do not look at me. Do not look at me in the eyes!” – Tracy Jordan.  He’s just so extravagant.

Pete isn’t fired! I thought he was just going to be in that one episode, but that wouldn’t make sense.

“We call him two for one. He’s a black guy and a Harvard guy.” – Jack D.

This show movies so fast.

“Ching chong who loves to play ping pong.”- Tracy Jordan. Horribly racist.

The dialogue is so shocking.  Also blatently contrasting.  The second Lisa tells Jenna that the show won’t change with Tracy Jordan and immediately afterwards the show name is changed and Tracy Jordan’s face is everywhere.

“You need to study your grammar, son.” -Tracy Jordan.  So ironic since he’s talking to the black guy in the office who went to Harvard.

The racist and sexist dialogue makes the show funny.

I still don’t like that the show is moving so fast.  Maybe it’s supposed to keep the idea of the fast past of show business in mind.

It’s not even Tracy Jordan’s boat so they have to jump off.  Her sense of humor is so shocking.  I am amazed that the characters can still develop even though the show is moving so  fast.

I rate this show a 4.  Once again, the speed is an issue for me.

Gary- You have the boldness of a much younger woman. Lisa’s reaction makes the show.

This episode reminded me of Curb Your Enthusiasm in the beginning when Lisa, the main character, is on line at a hot dog stand and someone cuts the line.  This was funny because it happens to everyone at some point and we all get mad about it.  So Lisa proceeds to buy all the hot dogs so the man who skipped the line can’t buy one.  I felt like it was moving too fast though.  I didn’t have time to get all the jokes and learn all the characters names by the end of the show.  I had to try and learn who was who, instead of just being told clearly.  One great scene was when Gary, the new boss, tells Lisa, “You have the boldness of a much younger woman.” Her face made the scene hilarious. She didn’t even have to respond, she just looked pissed.  Tracy Jordan was also hilarious and his whole part in the show was over the top.  I watched this episode by myself at around 10:30 pm.  I felt  I was able to focus more watching it alone.  Tina Fey is the writer for this show and she also plays Lisa.  I love her sense of humor so I think I will enjoy the rest of this season.  I rate this episode a 4.  I loved it except the pace.  Otherwise, it set up the story well and I was able to understand who the main character was and what the show was about.

My first reaction to this is that it must have taken people forever to explain their ideas if they used this many words all the time to say something so simple.  Beyond his word choice, I agree with Thomas Jefferson here.  Newspapers definitely have to ability to have a more educated public.  I don’t agree with his lack of hesitation.  There really needs to be some censorship of the publications and honestly I think there is a need for more valuable information in some newpapers around today.  Why people like Madonna or A-Rod make the front page will forever boggle my mind.
